Dear friend of Duo Dogs,
As we look forward to the summer months, I’m reminded of an uplifting quote I read during these strange times. When commenting on a long, tough experience, the Irish poet Seamus Heaney wrote, “If we can winter this one out, we can summer anywhere.”
His words are a powerful reminder of the power of perseverance. Indeed, these have been difficult days for all of us. Faced with unprecedented challenges, I’ve been consistently in awe of the resilience, generosity and creativity of the Duo Dogs family.
As we look forward to “the new normal,” I wanted to provide a few updates to you about what’s going on at Duo Dogs:
- Our facility and programs remain closed. We are consulting regularly with other nonprofits and similar organizations to develop plans and safety protocols to reopen and resume services.
- Our staff is still furloughed. Each furloughed employee is receiving state and federal unemployment benefits equal to their current salaries. Additionally, benefits are continuing to be provided as they were before the furlough.
- Our Assistance Dogs In-Training are enjoying this time at the homes of their amazing puppy raisers.
Thank you for your continued support and interest. These challenging times have brought out the best in our employees, volunteers, benefactors and (of course) our dogs. We look forward to welcoming you back to continue our mission when it is safe to do so.
