Duo Response Dogs support when it matters most

When a crisis occurs in our community, Duo Dogs is here to help bring comfort and calm to those who need it most. The Duo Response Dog Program is a crisis response initiative that deploys specially trained Duo Touch Therapy™ teams, consisting of certified handlers and their dogs. These teams serve at no cost to schools, organizations, and businesses affected by acute crises or traumatic events, offering compassionate support when it matters most.

About Duo Response Teams

Duo Response Teams are certified volunteers and their personal dogs, trained to provide emotional support that has proven highly effective in helping students, staff and others cope in the aftermath of a crisis. Each team is thoroughly screened, background-checked and has at least one year of experience providing Duo Touch Therapy™ visits across various settings.

Our training program is modeled after the National Animal-Assisted Crisis Response (NAACR) Standards but tailored specifically to meet the needs of communities in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Training topics include:

  • Disaster and crisis response concepts
  • Trauma-informed care
  • Care for the caregiver
  • Suicide awareness and prevention
  • Canine handling skills
  • Role-play crisis response scenarios
